Our Supplies for Healthy Lunches
Hi guys! Raise your hand if you liked last weeks blog post about some fun healthy lunch inspiration?! I got a lot of great feedback from you guys that I totally appreciate! I wanted to do a follow up with some of the supplies we use in our home for keeping those healthy lunches cold all day, while ensuring that the container the food is sitting in does not leech any toxins or chemicals into the food itself.
1. PackIt Cool Freezable Lunchbox - I love these freezable lunch boxes for so many reasons! First, they keep your food cold for up to 10 hours, which for me is super important because a lot of the foods that I pack my kids MUST be refrigerated due to it being nitrate-free or fermented. Because these lunch boxes start out frozen, they really do keep their food cold all day. Secondly, they come in the best colors and patterns. I have a graphic design background, so great prints are what I'm generally attracted to first. And lastly, they are super easy to clean. Just wipe them down with soapy water and rinse. Make sure to let fully air dry before putting it back in the freezer though!
2. Silicon Food Molds - I love these little guys because they separate the foods inside the lunch containers, come in fun bright colors, and there's no yucky chemicals in them that will get into the food.
3. Lifefactory Glass Water Bottle - These glass water bottles with a silicon sleeve are not only a great option for water, but they're also super reasonably priced. Most glass water bottles run pretty pricey, but I was pleased with the price point on these. Especially because they will be in the care of my children, which we all know how likely they are to break stuff. While they are still a little investment compared to a $5 water bottle from Target, I won't cringe too hard if these come home broken for some reason.
4. Eco Lunchbox - Both of my kids have these fun stainless steel lunch containers. We chose stainless steel over plastic a few years ago, because even though a lot of plastics are now BPA and phthalate free, the plastics are now replacing those chemicals in their manufacturing with phyto-hormone producing chemicals. Plus, these things last FOREVER! So many dishwashings and travels to school later and they are still good as new! We love them.
So there you have it! Super simple and minimal. We've collected this stuff over time and I'm pretty happy knowing their food is protected not only from the elements but from any toxins in the containers themselves. I'm also super happy about all the designs and bright colors of everything. Since my kids don't get hardly any pre-packaged foods, they can sometimes feel left out when the kids around them open their lunch boxes to all that fun and colorful junk food, so I do my best to make them healthy versions of sweet treats and make the packaging extra fun.
A few other lunch container brands that I have no personally tried, but would totally use are PlanetBox and LunchBots.
And just so you know, this is not a sponsored post, I just really love and actually use these products.
What are some of your favorite containers to use for your healthy kids?
In good health,
Tara
